UIC and UNIFE debate digital railway at International Railway Summit reunion breakfast

Press release   •   Oct 01, 2018 14:00 BST

What a truly digitalised railway system should look like and how it can transform rail transport were debated at the International Railway Summit’s reunion breakfast, which took place at the Regent Hotel in Berlin on Wednesday 19 September.

Participants from the past six editions of the International Railway Summit held over the last five years were invited to the networking event on the second morning of InnoTrans 2018, and enjoyed food, as well as food for thought, in the luxurious surroundings of the five-star Regent.

Among the past attendees of the International Railway Summit present at the breakfast were invited speakers Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General of the International Union of Railways (UIC), and Philippe Citroën, Director General of the Association of the European Rail Industry (UNIFE), who both addressed the topic "Digital Railway: What is it?" with the help of moderator Simon Fletcher, Director Standardisation & Coordinator Europe, UIC.

Contributing to the debate were a variety of experts representing international organisations, rail operators and solution providers including Andy Doherty, CTO of Network Rail, Mahendran Suppiah, General Manager Rail Operations of Malayan Railways (KTMB) and Enzo Blonk, Director Industry Engagement, GS1.

Jean-Pierre Loubinoux will attend the 7th International Railway Summit in Frankfurt on 20-22 February as a keynote speaker. The conference programme of the 7th International Railway Summit asks "How do we achieve an efficient railway system in the digital era?", looking in depth at cross-border travel, smart cities, big data, investment models, and the most exciting technologies of the future.

Organisations and individuals interested in learning more about the International Railway Summit and about how they can participate in the event can visit or contact the organisers, IRITS Events.

International Railway Summit is a meeting of senior executives representing the world’s key rail operators, rail infrastructure management companies, national and local governments, rolling stock manufacturers and a wide range of solution providers.

International Railway Summit provides a 'matchmaking' service between rail industry leaders ('buyers') and technical experts, based on buyer delegates' project requirements and the proven expertise of large and small suppliers that we have carefully handpicked. Based on this matchmaking, buyer delegates attend one-to-one consultation sessions with suitable suppliers during the annual summit.

In addition to the one-to-one meetings, delegates also attend a conference programme given by key industry leaders and experts and network over lunches and dinners with their counterparts and industry colleagues from all over the world. International Railway Summit is hosted by IRITS Events. The 5th International Railway Summit will take place on 15-17 November 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the first time the event will be hosted in Asia. The 6th International Railway Summit on 21-23 February 2018 in Prague, Czech Republic.
